Wills

Lamb & Holmes Solicitors have been providing expert legal advice for over 200 years.

Our Private Client Department is located across both our Kettering and Corby offices. We also work with our clients who are based not only in Northamptonshire but neighbouring counties and further afield.

Our Private Client Department specialises in the drafting and writing of Wills.  We have been writing Wills professionally for over 200 years. Our team of experienced and qualified Solicitors and legal experts provide a personal service, ensuring that each Will is tailor-made to suit the client’s individual needs, taking account of their particular personal and business circumstances.

Nearly everyone has thought of making a Will at some point, but only 30 per cent of us have actually done so.  Even the most sensible of us often wrongly assume that making a Will is something that can be put off until tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the absence of a Will, or a self-written document, can mean instructions on how your estate should be dealt with are unclear and lack legal standing. This can lead to disputes over property, belongings and finance.  By having a professionally written Will in place you will ensure your wishes are respected and will provide certainty for your friends and family.

If you die without leaving a Will, otherwise known as being intestate, your estate is distributed according to rules set out by statute which might not be in accordance with your wishes and so may not be appropriate for your estate. This is an extremely stressful time for everyone involved and that is why having a Will in place is so important so that nothing can be left to chance.

Here are some of the issues that may arise if you die without leaving a Will (intestate):

  • Your money and possessions may not automatically pass to your next of kin; there are rules which direct which family members inherit if their relative dies intestate.
  • Relations who might be distant relations have to be traced which can lead to long delays, expense and hardship for the immediate family.
  • At present, there is no automatic right to inherit in the intestate rules or in a statute for common law spouses to inherit  the money and possessions

In our team of highly experienced professionals, we have members of STEP and legal experts who will meet with you to discuss your individual needs and requirements. During your meeting, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. If you are unable to meet with us at our offices in Kettering and Corby we are able to offer a home or hospital visit instead. This may incur a fee if more than two miles away. We can also provide witnesses if needed.
