Lamb & Holmes Kettering

Lamb & Holmes History

Behind every long-established Law Firm is a story and a history. At Lamb & Holmes Solicitors, our history stretches back more than two centuries. Founded in 1813 by Mr Henry Lamb, Lamb & Holmes is one of Northamptonshire’s oldest law firms.

Our head office on West Street in Kettering has been the Firm’s main office for more than 200 years, providing a remarkable sense of continuity for the community.

The Firm’s name has evolved as new Partners have helped to shape the future of the Firm. In 1880, Mr Charles Woodcock Stringer joined as a Partner and the Firm became Lamb & Stringer.

Following on from that, in 1939, when Mr Tony Holmes joined the partnership. From that point, the firm became known as Lamb & Holmes—the name that continues today and is a name that is well known within the community.

In 1959, the Firm expanded its presence in Northamptonshire by opening an office in Corby.

Further growth followed during the 1960s, when the Kettering office extended into the neighbouring property, Westbury. The building had previously been the family home of the Lamb family, where Mr Edward Lamb was born.

In the early 2000s the Corby branch located in town centre moved over to Headway Business Park Estate to allow for more growth within the Firm.

Mr Edward Lamb, the great-great-grandson of founder Mr Henry Lamb, was a practising senior partner in the firm and community for many years until he retired and became our Consultant in December 2025. He is highly regarded within the local community for his commitment and his continuing work with local charitable organisations.

The unusual features and stories within our historic Kettering Premises are also something that adds character and adds a fascinating dimension to the Firm. From its cellar, it’s old garage with old handwritten notes, the speaking tubes around the offices and shelves of old legal books. Today, all of these interesting quirky features remain at our Kettering premises.

Lamb & Holmes still continues to serve clients across Northamptonshire and the surrounding areas from the offices in Kettering and Corby. The Firm combines traditional values with a modern approach.

We understand that contacting a Solicitor for the first time can feel daunting. That is why we go the extra mile to make every client feel welcome and to explain legal advice clearly, without unnecessary legal jargon.

Lamb & Holmes has always been—and will continue to be—a local firm, full of history and closely connected to its community.

More than 200 years after Henry Lamb founded the practice, our commitment remains the same: to offer trusted, approachable and high-quality legal support.
